The Glacial Hills Resource Conservation
and Development Region Inc. is a 501(C)(3) organization tax exempt
under the IRS Code. It is a nonprofit corporation chartered by the
State of Kansas. The Glacial Hills Resource Conservation and
Development (RC&D) Region Inc. is a rural development organization
based on the development and enhancement of natural, economic and human
resources serving Atchison, Brown, Doniphan,
Jackson, Jefferson, Marshall and Nemaha
counties.
The RC&D is governed by a 21 member Board of Directors comprised of three members from each of the seven counties. Each board member is a volunteer citizen representing the interests of their county. The Board governs the policy, direction and activities of the RC&D organization. The bylaws allow up to five sponsors from each county and the Council wants to expand the diversity of sponsors to include other organizations and agencies. Staffing support of an RC&D Coordinator and Program Assistant is provided to the Glacial Hills Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Region Inc. in a unique public/private partnership through the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. Most project and program funding comes from grants received from local, state and federal agencies.
Glacial Hills RC&D is responsible for both the Northeast Kansas Enterprise Facilitation Initiative and the Delaware River Basin Watershed Restoration & Strategies ("WRAPS") initiative.
