Horton, Kans. During the week of October 10, 2012, the City of Horton will be conducting planned capital improvements to the City’ water distribution lines. These improvements are necessary to ensure reliable service in the decades ahead. In order to make these improvements, however, the City must shut-down water to water service customers in the northwest area north of 15th Street and west of Central Avenue during this time.
The planned outage will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2012. While water will be restored by noon on October 10, 2012, it is necessary that all water be boiled, until further notice, in order to prevent any possible bacteriological contamination that may have entered the lines during the time of reduced water pressure.
Once samples are returned to the City as being safe to drink, the City will notify residents via KNZA 103.9 radio and on it’s website at http://www.hortonkansas.net.
During the boil advisory, citizens are encouraged to:
· Boil water vigorously for one minute prior to use. Use only boiled water for drinking, diluting fruit juices, and all other food preparation.
· Dispose of ice cubes, do not use ice from a household automatic icemaker, and if possible disable automatic ice maker. Remake ice cubes with water that has been boiled.
· Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.
· Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled. Supervision of children is necessary while bathing or using backyard pools so water is not ingested. Persons with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult their physicians.
Customers of the City of Horton, Kansas, Water Distribution System in the designated area should make preparations prior to the October 10, 2012, scheduled replacements, such as filling water bottles and containers and also filling bath tubs for additional supplies of water.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the City at (785) 486-2681 and we will be happy to help you with any further questions you may have during this time. This advisory is not expected to extend beyond Thursday, October 11. Additional information is also available at http://www.hortonkansas.net.
